Mark McHale, Vice President for the UK and Ireland region at Arrow ECS, has well over thirty years’ experience in the IT industry, including two years overseas working in Africa and North America. Mark’s long service with the company – he joined in 1986 – has given him remarkable insight into an industry that continues to evolve at an ever-accelerating pace.
An early apprenticeship in electrical & electronic engineering proved a springboard for a successful career in IT sales, which culminated in his joining the Arrow ECS board as UK Sales Director over ten years ago. His most recent role at Arrow ECS was Managing Director for the Data Centre Solutions division of Arrow ECS business in the UK and Ireland.
Mark excels at recognising a market need and identifying the appropriate solutions to fulfil it, a vital sales skill that he brings to his current role. He enables Arrow ECS, our vendors and our channel partners to collectively seize opportunities presented by game-changing markets and the technologies within them such as cloud, digital and IoT to develop mutually profitable relationships.
It’s a time of transition, and in steering the business forward through a radically changing commercial and technological landscape, Mark balances his strategic vision of what the future will look like with a pragmatic and structured approach to implementation.
Specialist areas include mergers and acquisitions; emerging markets and technology; sales management and leadership; vendor and channel relationship management.
Chief Financial Officer, UK & Ireland
Kieran Cooper, Arrow ECS Chief Financial Officer for UK & Ireland, has over 16 years’ experience in the IT industry. A graduate of Durham University Kieran subsequently qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young LLP in Leeds.
Following an initial move into industry with Gist logistics, Kieran joined the company in 2001 as Systems Accountant before progressing through roles as Management Accountant and Director of Finance to his current position of CFO, gaining an in depth knowledge of the business along the way.
Kieran’s responsibilities have grown with the business since it was acquired by Arrow at the end of 2006, overseeing growth in annual revenues from £200m to over £950m today.
As the face of IT changes so the role of Finance has evolved to meet the ever changing demands and challenges of customers, vendors and stakeholders, balancing the risks of modern business with commercial reality.
In its next stage of transition Kieran is positioning the Finance function to develop further and become more of a true business partner encompassing business understanding, commerciality, ethics, communication skills, analytical skills and professional judgement. Taken together Kieran believes these attributes will help Finance both determine business needs and help to meet them.
Services and Operations Director
Paul Hayhurst has been in the world of distribution for over 20 years, spending the first 15 years at Sphinx CST before its acquisition, and the last 8 years with Arrow. A qualified Chartered Accountant, Paul has held several posts of responsibility over the years. Most recently, he has taken on the role of Services and Operations Director, and in this post has worked with most of our major vendors across infrastructure, virtualisation, Software-defined, networking and security.
Paul’s responsibilities include quote & configuration, renewals and warehousing & distribution. He and his specialist teams are dedicated to minimising the administrative overhead on our channel partners and to removing complexity from their business, helping them to seize new commercial opportunities, fulfil their customers’ requirements quickly and efficiently and realise the potential of repeat business.
In addition, Paul is responsible for Arrow’s three services businesses: Support, Training and Professional Services. These services enable channel partners to extend the scope and scale of their offering and close the door on the competition, while adding immense value to the end-user business.
Paul’s broad remit also takes in quality and compliance, driving the satisfaction of our channel partners and their customers through continuous improvement. He ensures that Arrow’s processes attain the highest industry standards, including ISO 9001 for quality and ISO 27001 for information security.
Paul is committed to streamlining and automating our business processes wherever possible to accelerate turnaround to our channel partners, improve accuracy and release our skilled teams to provide a personalised response to non-standard requests. He firmly believes that Arrow should not only meet our channel partners’ expectations but exceed them and add end-to-end value from the initial quote to implementation and beyond.
